Nico Hulkenberg has hinted that he will be staying put at the Haas Formula 1 squad for the 2024 season.

Hulkenberg rejoined Haas in 2023, replacing Mick Schumacher who was dropped after two years with the team.

Earlier this week, Haas boss Gunther Steiner stated that he was keen to retain Hulkenberg’s services for next year amid an impressive series of performances.

With team owner Gene Haas present at the Hungaroring this weekend, Hulkenberg was questioned over whether he would talk with him regarding a new deal.

“I’ll sit down with him regardless,” Hulkenberg said. “Maybe there is no deal to be done? Maybe a deal is in place? Who knows?

“I’m pretty happy and relaxed. I think it works both ways at the moment, and I’m enjoying myself.

“I think the team is also in a good place. So, there’s no reason not to think why that relationship shouldn’t continue like this.”

Hulkenberg has shone in qualifying performances during the season so far, however Haas’ lack of race pace has meant point finishes have been difficult to secure.

The team is introducing a floor upgrade at the Hungaroring, which Hulkenberg hopes will boost its chances of finishing inside the top 10.

“It’s been a bit tough lately, bit of a dry spell also in terms of points scoring – apart from obviously Austria in the Sprint race,” he said.

“Here, it’s very hot, it’s very demanding on tyres so you know, it’s going to be definitely a tough weekend for us.

“We have a few little upgrades to the car, on the floor. So hopefully, they can push us along a little bit but I expect the very, tight field again, so every session matters, every lap matters.”
