During the first free practice session of the Mexican Grand Prix,
Sauber Academy driver Théo Pourchaire got the chance to get into
Alfa Romeo’s C43. Unfortunately, luck was not on his side this
session, as the car appeared to have a problem on the first lap of
the circuit, and could not be used for the rest of practice. So
there went his chance to impress the team, but he need not grieve,
as he will get another chance, according to Alfa Romeo team boss
Alessandro Alunni Bravi: “In Abu Dhabi, the second FP1 session, and
also the rookie test [he will drive],” the team boss explained to
the media, including RacingNews365.com . “He has shown that he is
mature.” In addition, the Italian wanted to express his
appreciation for the young rookie and how he handled the Alfa Romeo
car’s problems: “He had been waiting all year for this session and
then in Mexico he couldn’t do laps because of a problem with the
car. And he remained calm over the board radio and he gave the
right instructions: precise and concrete messages to the team. So
if you ask me, this experience is positive for him. He has shown
that he is mature.” Pourchaire will therefore be part of Alfa
Romeo’s line-up next year. The Frenchman will be the third driver.
“He deserves it, and even though we have confirmed our driver
lineup for 2024, we are looking at what is the best racing program
for him to stay in shape.” Bravi stressed that he is not a reserve
driver, but will function as a third driver: “He is part of our
lineup. We will have three drivers next year, not two official
drivers and one reserve.”
