Aston Martin have praised Lance Stroll for his 2023 Formula 1 breakthrough after being teammate to Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso. Alonso joined Aston to replace fellow World Champion Vettel who decided to retire after the 2022 campaign, with Stroll staying on as incumbent. The Silverstone team have enjoyed the new season with Alonso claiming three third places, coupled with a sixth and fifth from Stroll to already haul more points after three races (65) than they did in the whole of 2022 (55). And Aston performance director Tom McCullough believes Canadian Stroll has stepped up a level in understanding this season. Aston evaluate Stroll “Lance has just been improving and learning and working with his engineers nonstop and is just getting better and better and better,” McCullough told media including RacingNews365 in Melbourne. “But I also think that as the car gets better, it’s easier as well and you’re just getting the most of out the car all the time. “He’s had the pleasure of working with Sebastian and now Fernando and they bring different things to the game – but he’s also just working on his own way of driving and getting the most out of himself – which is important. “Both [Sebastian and Fernando] are very experienced, good drivers so you are always going o learn something from them. “The difficulty for Sebastian was that the car wasn’t as competitive so now I think actually looking at the way Sebastian and Lance were driving last year and the differences between them, and again with [Fernando] this year, it is very close between them.”
