1996 F1 World Champion Damon Hill says MaxVerstappen can win a record eight World Championship titles. After snatching the 2021 title on the last lap of the season finale in Abu Dhabi,Verstappen retained his crown in much more dominant fashion last year, taking arecord 15 wins in a single season. Having won two of 2023’s first threeraces, and with his Red Bull RB19 appearing to be the class of the field, Verstappenlooks well placed to take this season’s title as well. Speaking on the F1 Nation podcast, Hillbacked the Dutchman to break F1’s record of seven World Championship titles, jointly held by Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton. “I’m sure he’ll get better. He hasshown more maturity in the application of his talents in races,” said Hill. “He knows when to twist and when tostick. There’s no need to go flat out everywhere but he’s always got somethingin his back pocket if he needs it. “Thesky is the limit – it could be eight world titles. There’s a ruthlessness to itas well. “Most people find it difficult to relateto that, because in normal life it’s regarded as being selfish andunattractive. “But it’s atotally appropriate mindset when competing in a sport where the objective is towin. It’s not to do well or play nicely, it’s to win. So that is what he has.”
