Max Verstappen topped the sole practice session for the Austrian Grand Prix as teams prepared for this afternoon’s qualifying session.

Teams spent the vast majority of the session completing long runs on the hard and medium tyres in an attempt to maximise the hour of running before a final soft run at the end of the session.

Verstappen’s fastest time of 1:05.742 on the medium compound was 0.241s clear of Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz who set his best time on the softs. Charles Leclerc was third fastest.

Lewis Hamilton’s race pace on the hard tyre looked strong with the Brit faster than Verstappen before the switch to softs. His time of 1:06.251 saw him fourth fastest ahead of Sergio Perez.

The next Formula 1 track action comes at 17:00 local time with qualifying for Sunday’s Austrian Grand Prix.
