Charles Leclerc has claimed pole position for the Mexico City Grand Prix as Ferrari locked out the front row of the grid.

The Monegasque driver clocked a best time of 1:17:166s to top the times, beating team-mate Carlos Sainz by just 0.067s.

Max Verstappen, who is one of several drivers being investigated post-session, came up 0.097s short.

Daniel Ricciardo managed an impressive fourth for AlphaTauri, ahead of the second Red Bull of Sergio Perez.

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri split the two Mercedes drivers, Lewis Hamilton clearing George Russell.

Alfa Romeo advanced two cars through to Q3 for only the second time this year, Valtteri Bottas leading Zhou Guanyu as the pair completed the top 10.

Lando Norris was a surprise casualty in Q1 as a spin from Fernando Alonso in the closing stages of the first session halted the Briton’s final attempt.
