Carlos Sainz has gone fastest in the solitary practice session of the Sao Paulo Grand Prix weekend.

Sainz’s time of 1:11.732s bettered that of Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc in second, who set a time of 1:11.840s.

Mercedes’ George Russell wound up third, lapping the Interlagos circuit in a time of 1:11.865s.

Behind Russell came the Haas of Nico Hulkenberg and Alex Albon’s Williams to complete the top five.

Leading the way for Aston Martin in the session was Lance Stroll in sixth, ahead of the Alpine of Pierre Gasly, Zhou Guanyu and Logan Sargeant in the second Williams

Kevin Magnussen, last year’s pole sitter in Sao Paulo, rounded out the top 10 in practice ahead of qualifying.
