Christian Horner has delivered a blow to Red Bull’s F1 rivals by ending speculation surrounding the future of Chief Technology Officer Adrian Newey. Newey has forged his way to F1 greatness in a career spanning back to the late-1980s, designing numerous World Championship-winning cars for Williams, McLaren and Red Bull. The RB19 has been dominant in the opening three rounds of the current campaign, with its aerodynamic efficiency being hailed as the defining factor of the car, which has allowed Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez to overtake with ease. But rumours last month claimed Newey’s contract with the Milton Keynes-based outfit would be up for renewal, though Horner has moved to clarify the situation. Horner: There are always rumours in F1 Speaking to Sky Sports News , Horner said: “His heart is still very much in Formula 1 and his commitment to the team is, it’s not something… We don’t talk about contracts or longevity of contracts, but he’ll be here for many years to come. “There’s always going to be rumours in this paddock, that’s Formula 1. Newey’s engineering know-how is being deployed in various Red Bull projects surpassing F1, including sailing’s America’s Cup, where the energy drinks giant is partnered with Alinghi Racing. “He’s such an important part of our team and popular part of our team,” Horner added. “It’s great to have him with us for the long term, but also to be involved in some of the things we’re now getting involved in.”
