Formula E has been awarded the inaugural edie Net-Zero award, confirming once again that the all-electric series is the most sustainable motorsport championship on Earth.

The Net-Zero award has been created by edie to ensure that the companies pushing towards a more sustainable future are celebrated and recognised, with the award running alongside the well-respected edie Award. The edie Award showcases the most sustainable businesses in the world.

The all-electric sport collected their award on Wednesday evening and were congratulated for continuing to work towards the goal of reducing the championship’s emissions by 45% by 2030.

Formula E made the commitment back in 2020, which also coincided with the series becoming the first sport on the planet to receive validation from the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi), in regard to its emissions reduction targets.

Incredibly, Formula E is more than on-track to reach its goal, as in just three years the championship has reduced its emissions by a staggering 28%.

“We are thrilled to have our world-leading net zero carbon strategy recognised by edie’s inaugural Net-Zero Awards,” said Julia Palle, Formula E’s Sustainability Director.

“With ten years of racing under our belt our mission is not only to remain the most sustainable sport on the planet, but to inspire and encourage other sports and sectors to do more and move faster.

“We can all do more to reduce our impact on the environment, but with a clearly defined net zero carbon strategy the impact can be truly game changing in protecting the planet.”

Formula E winning the first-ever edie Net-Zero Award comes ahead of the season 10 opener in Mexico City in January, where the fourth-most popular racing category in the world will begin its celebrations of reaching it’s first decade of existence.
