Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc set the fastest time during final practice for Formula 1’s British Grand Prix before rain hit Silverstone.

The session started in dry but overcast conditions before rain began falling mid-way through the one-hour session.

Drivers lapped on the green-banded Intermediate tyres – amid the threat of a wet circuit for qualifying – but no further lap time improvements were feasible.

Leclerc’s time of 1:27.419s enabled him to finish 0.173s clear of Williams’ Alexander Albon, who continued his and the team’s impressive display of pace around Silverstone.

World Champion Max Verstappen finished down in eighth position after not getting a run in on the Soft tyres before the rain fell.

Logan Sargeant backed up Williams’ surprising pace by finishing seventh overall, having finished fifth in the standings on Friday.

Fernando Alonso was third for Aston Martin, ahead of Alpine’s Pierre Gasly, with Lewis Hamilton fifth for Mercedes.

Carlos Sainz, who was Verstappen’s closest challenger in hotter and drier conditions on Friday, wound up sixth for Ferrari, ahead of rookie Sargeant and the reigning two-time world champion.

George Russell finished ninth for Mercedes while Yuki Tsunoda rounded out the top 10, in front of AlphaTauri team-mate Nyck de Vries.

Lando Norris, another not to set his best time on Softs, was 12th, ahead of Lance Stroll and Sergio Perez, who also clocked his quickest effort on the Medium tyres.

Alfa Romeo’s Zhou Guanyu completed only two installation laps during the session while the team investigated an issue with his C43.

Qualifying for the British Grand Prix is scheduled for 15:00 local time
