Red Bull Motorsport Advisor Helmut Marko has conceded he has “given
up” on finding a “new” Max Verstappen after the Milton Keynes-based
outfit announced its latest junior signing. Oliver Goethe will make
his first outing in Red Bull colours at this weekend’s Macau Grand
Prix with Campos Racing. The 19-year-old finished eighth in F3 for
Trident this year having secured the Euroformula title last season,
whilst also experiencing success in sportscars. Red Bull’s signing
follows a number of changes recently, including the release of
former F3 title-winner Dennis Hauger last month. Goethe must prove
himself Reacting to the Goethe news, Marko told OE24 : “He is a
good guy, a German who lives in London and Monte Carlo. He was fast
during the test days and next year he will have to prove himself in
F3.” But on whether he can compare to such junior success stories
such as Verstappen or Sebastian Vettel, Marko said: “Maybe he has a
bit of that same cheekiness, but I have already given up looking
for a new Verstappen. After all, there is no such thing… I will
be happy if we find a future GP winner.”
