Tributes have come in from across the world of motorsport to Irish rally driver Craig Breen, who passed away on 13 April following an accident during a test session ahead of the 2023 WRC Croatia Rally. Breen died after his Hyundai i20 N Sport collided with a pole on a road between Stari Golubovec and Lobor, fatally injuring him. Co-driver James Fulton was unharmed in the crash. Having previously raced for Hyundai, Breen had rejoined the team at the start of 2023, rotating driving duties with Dani Sordo. The Irishman finished second at the Rally Sweden earlier in the year, equalling his best ever WRC result. A memorial service on Tuesday in Breen’s hometown of Waterford attracted thousands of mourners from Ireland and abroad. Hyundai elected not to withdraw from the Croatia Rally, instead competing with their vehicles bedecked in a special livery resembling the Irish tricolor, in Breen’s honour (see below).
