McLaren driver Oscar Piastri has revealed the impact of illness across the Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend. The Australian battled a bug across the event at the Baku City Circuit but overcame it to finish 11th, two spots behind teammate Lando Norris. Piastri’s race was compromised when the Williams of Alex Albon tagged the rear left of the McLaren into Turn 2 of the opening lap, costing him time and allowing AlphaTauri’s Yuki Tsunoda through on the run to Turn 3. The Japanese driver remained ahead of Piastri for the duration of the 51-lap event to pick up the final point on offer, with overtaking coming at a premium across the field. Four pieces of toast Revealing how he was handicapped by the illness, Piastri told media including RacingNews365.com : “I felt a bit better [in the] morning, which was good. Through the race, it didn’t impact me too much. “I’m a lot lighter than I was at the start of the weekend! [Sunday’s] probably been the best all weekend, which isn’t saying much. “It’s been very difficult, physically. Especially [Saturday] was pretty rough. I think I’ve had about four pieces of toast for the whole weekend, so I need to get some food back in me before Miami.”
