Carlos Sainz became the third driver to smash a winners’ trophy
this season after securing victory in the inaugural Netflix Cup.
Ferrari driver Sainz had come out on top in the F1 meets Golf event
at the Wynn, Las Vegas, after partner and major championship winner
Justin Thomas closed out in the final nearest-to-the-pin playoff.
The Netflix Cup played on the success of both Drive to Survive and
golf’s own version, Full Swing and saw Sainz, Lando Norris, Pierre
Gasly and Alex Albon paired with PGA Tour professionals Thomas,
Rickie Fowler, Tony Finau and Max Homa. It made history as the
first live sports event to be streamed on Netflix. Trophies have
fared poorly in F1 this season, with Lando Norris shattering Max
Verstappen’s Hungarian Grand Prix winners’ porcelain when
attempting his typical bottle bash on the top step at the
Hungaroring, leading to a replacement being made and sent to the
Dutchman. At the very next race, Verstappen knocked over Red Bull’s
Constructors’ winners’ trophy at the Belgian Grand Prix when
running away from the team photo as energy drink was sprayed all
around. Luckily, the trophy was able top be pieced back together.
But Sainz has continued the trend by dropping his Netflix Cup
trophy during celebrations with Thomas. He held it in his left hand
whilst holding a bottle in his right and, after nudging his own
shoulder, the trophy fell to the floor and breaking into pieces.
Take a look at the incident below! Noooo Carlos! The Netflix Cup
did not survive the celebrations 😆🏆 #LasVegasGP #F1 @Carlossainz55
