Lando Norris will start on pole position for the Sao Paulo Grand
Prix Sprint race – his first P1 start since the 2021 Russian GP.
After being frustrated at missing out on Grand Prix pole in
qualifying after rain and a yellow flag from team-mate Oscar
Piastri, Norris stormed to the fastest time in the Sprint Shootout,
edging out Max Verstappen by less than a tenth. The McLaren driver
lost time during Sector 1 on his sole lap in SQ3, but made up for
it in the second and third segments of the lap to secure P1 on the
grid – after Piastri did so during the recent Qatar Sprint. Sergio
Perez was third with George Russell ahead of Lewis Hamilton in
fifth. Norris has been summoned to the stewards for exceeding the
maximum delta time between the Safety Car lines, with Esteban Ocon
and Fernando Alonso also among those needing a trip to the stewards
following their SQ1 accident. NOTE: The starting grid remains
provisional until formally confirmed by the FIA. Starting grid for
