Max Verstappen will start the 2023 Sao Paulo Grand Prix on pole
position – his 11th of the season. The Red Bull driver perfectly
timed his Q3 lap on Friday before the storm swept across Interlagos
and forced an early abandonment of the session. He is joined on the
front-row by Charles Leclerc, with an all-Aston Martin row two,
headed by Lance Stroll. Lewis Hamilton is fifth with George Russell
one of three drivers to pick up a two-place grid penalty for
ignoring the race director’s instructions to keep to the far left
of the pit-exit during qualifying. Alpine duo Esteban Ocon and
Pierre Gasly were also hit with a similar penalty for the same
offence. NOTE: The grid remains provisional until formally
confirmed by the FIA on Sunday. 2023 F1 Brazilian Grand Prix –
